History/Overview
Kia added the Sorento Hybrid to its lineup last year, following 2021’s full redesign of the Sorento mid-size crossover lineup. It’s part of the brand’s major push into the electrified vehicle space.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
There are no changes to the Sorento Hybrid for 2023.
Available Trims
Kia offers the Sorento Hybrid in LX and EX trim levels, both of which are powered by a 1.6L turbo four-cylinder engine, an electric motor, six-speed automatic transmission, and AWD.
Standard Features
LX trim comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, and heated side mirrors. Inside, there are heated front seats/steering wheel, six-passenger seating, a 4.2-inch driver info display, an 8.0-inch touchscreen, six-speaker audio, and wireless phone charging. Sorento Hybrid’s safety suite consists of lane keep/follow assist, forward collision mitigation, and rear parking sensors.
EX adds 19-inch wheels, synthetic leather seats, a power driver’s seat with lumbar, integrated garage door remote, passive keyless entry, a hands-free tailgate, satellite radio, and blind spot/rear cross-traffic collision mitigation.
Any features you don’t see listed here are likely limited to the more advanced Sorento Plug-in Hybrid, whose trims build on Sorento Hybrid EX and are covered in a separate buyer’s guide entry.
Fuel Economy
Kia’s fuel consumption estimates are 6.4/7.0 L/100 km (city/highway).
Competition
With the Sorento Hybrid, Kia goes up against Toyota’s Highlander Hybrid and RAV4 Hybrid, the Ford Explorer Hybrid, Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, and the mechanically similar Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid.
